Distance Education
Open and distance education delivered through Information and Communication Technology has the potential to provide high-quality higher education to the masses at minimal cost, said Vice-President Hamid Ansari on Saturday. Delivering the convocation address at the 19th Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Mr. Ansari asserted that distance education had increasingly emerged as a critical link in achieving the goal of ushering in a knowledge society. Defence Personnel are eligible for 50% concession in the course fee payable for any course of study offered through Distance Education of our university. For this purpose, the candidate should produce the original service certificate along with Application for admission.
Distance education, or distance learning, is a field of education that focuses on the pedagogy and andragogy, technology, and instructional systems design that aim to deliver education to students who are not physically “on site”. Rather than attending courses in person, teachers and students may communicate at times of their own choosing by exchanging printed or electronic media, or through technology that allows them to communicate in real time and through other chatting ways. Distance education courses that require a physical on-site presence for any reason including the taking of examinations is considered to be a hybrid or blended course or program.
It is highly advised that students who wish to enroll into a Distance Education to confirm if the University offering the course if recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. Enrolling into courses of universities that are not DEC Recognized might be doing so on their own risk.
